The Sportlink Grand Prix Series rolls into one of its most iconic and demanding events this weekend as the Wymondham 20, hosted by Wymondham AC, takes centre stage.

Following a superb opening to the series at the Reedham Ten and the Mike Groves 10K, attention now turns to a race that plays a crucial role in the spring marathon build-up – and one that promises high-quality competition throughout the field.

A key race in marathon season

For many, this is far more than just a race.

It’s a vital marathon training effort, with runners fine-tuning pace, endurance and nutrition ahead of major spring marathons – while also raising money for local charities.

New Balance partnership adds extra edge

This year’s event is further boosted by support from New Balance, in partnership with Sportlink.

Runners will have the opportunity to test elite-level footwear, including the New Balance SC Elite v5 and the New Balance 1080 v15, adding another exciting dimension to race day.

Elite field set to deliver

A strong field is expected across both men’s and women’s races.

Men to watch

Defending champion Dean Williamson (Colchester AC) returns after setting a stunning course record of 1:47:38 last year – a performance that preceded his impressive 2:17 marathon in Frankfurt in the autumn.

James Senior (City of Norwich AC), head coach of the Norwich Distance Squad, arrives in strong form after finishing second at the Mike Groves 10K.

There’s also plenty of other local interest.

Kyle Brooks (Wymondham AC) has been in outstanding form, setting personal bests at both the Reedham Ten and the Mike Groves 10K, while Martyn Bath (Norwich Road Runners) comes in full of confidence after victory at Reedham as he builds towards a sub-2:30 attempt at the London Marathon.

And never to be discounted is Joe Skipper, the Ironman athlete and former winner, who is always capable of mixing it at the front – depending, perhaps, on what training session he’s completed beforehand.

Women to watch

In the women’s race, Cat Cummings (City of Norwich AC) continues her consistent build towards the Manchester Marathon and will be looking to deliver another strong performance.

Dawn Robinson (Ryston Runners) arrives in excellent form following recent cross country success and continues to show her strength across distances.

Local interest will centre on Harriet Carr (Wymondham AC), who impressed with a 2:52 marathon in Seville and recently set a new 10-mile personal best at Reedham. A sub-2:50 marathon remains firmly in her sights, she will be one to watch.
