Dean Williamson of Colchester Harriers AC produced a stunning run to rewrite the history books at Sunday’s Wymondham 20, breaking a 35-year-old event record in the process.

The race, organised by Wymondham AC, also served as the third event in the 2025 Sportlink Grand Prix Series, as a total of 462 runners took on the challenging 20-mile race through the Norfolk countryside, many using the event as a key preparation run ahead of spring marathons such as London and Manchester.

Conditions were ideal for running, with cool temperatures, little wind, and bright skies contributing to a fast day on the roads.

Williamson clocked a remarkable time of 1:47:37, beating the previous best of 1:49:35, set back in 1989 by Norfolk running legend Neil Featherby. The Colchester athlete looked in command throughout and crossed the line more than four minutes clear of his nearest rival.

Behind him, Callum Bowen-Jones of Newham & Essex Beagles AC impressed with a strong performance to take second in 1:52:04, ahead of Kim Bowling (Colchester Harriers AC), who completed the podium in 1:52:22.

In the women’s race, Eleanor Grubb of City of Norwich AC was a clear winner, coming home in 2:10:54 to claim the women’s title and first place in the F40-44 category. It is her first victory of the 2025 Series after finishing runner up at both the Reedham Ten and Valentine’s 10K.

She was followed by Kate Murrell (Norwich Road Runners) in 2:12:48, with Vicky McElligott (Leigh-on-Sea Striders) rounding out the top three in 2:16:50.

As part of the Sportlink Grand Prix Series, the race attracted a strong club turnout and delivered memorable performances from start to finish.

With the course record finally falling after more than three decades, the 2025 edition will live long in the memory.

Next up in the Sportlink Grand Prix Series is the Aylsham 10K on Sunday, May 4. You can sign up here.
