Some of the fastest club runners in the region will be lining up at the Wroxham 5K this Wednesday evening, as race six of the Sportlink Grand Prix Series promises fast times and exciting head-to-head battles.

From local road racing stars to athletes with national-level credentials, this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive editions of the event, organised by Norwich Road Runners, in recent years.

Here are six men to keep an eye on:

Jonathan Escalante-Phillips (Cambridge & Coleridge AC)

With a lightning-fast PB of 13:53, set at the Adidas Podium Home Nations 5K last August, Escalante-Phillips brings real firepower to the race. His recent victory at the Cambridge Half Marathon in 66:12 shows he’s in top form and capable of pushing the pace from the front.

Logan Smith (City of Norwich AC)

Fresh from a stunning 2:15:23 PB at the London Marathon – good for 22nd overall and eighth Brit – Smith is in the shape of his life. He ran 15:04 at the Aylsham 5K recently and holds a 5K best of 14:31 set in April 2023. Expect him to be right in the mix again.

Joe Skipper (Team Skipper)

Known for his Ironman exploits, Joe Skipper has been a force on the local scene too. He took the win at the Dereham 10M in hot conditions earlier this year and posted a new 5K PB of 15:38 at Aylsham. He’ll use Wroxham as a tune-up before racing Challenge Roth this weekend.

William Cork (City of Norwich AC)

Winner of the Aylsham 5K in 15:03, Cork has a PB of 14:32 from Battersea Park and will likely be one of the men to beat. He and Smith have traded blows in recent weeks and another duel could be on the cards on Wednesday night.

Zak Houghton (City of Norwich AC)

Zak Houghton quietly clocked a 14:35 PB at Friday Night Under the Lights in February and has been consistently strong ever since. He could spring a surprise if the front-runners get tactical.

Danny Adams (City of Norwich AC)

Known for bold, front-running tactics, Danny Adams is never afraid to push the pace. With a sub-15 PB of 14:59, he’s another serious contender – and a regular face in Grand Prix races.
