Waveney Valley AC’s Rose Nicholson made it two wins in a row at the Great Yarmouth Half Marathon, taking victory in 1:21:48 at race nine of the Sportlink Grand Prix Series.

Nicholson, who has a long history with the event, said it’s always one she looks forward to – not just for the competition, but for the way it slots perfectly into her training.

“This race overlaps with some of my longer runs so it’s a favourite for me,” she told Sportlink TV after posting a time of 1:21:46.

The race was held in warm conditions, looping through the villages of Ashby, Lound, and Somerleyton, and even passing through the grounds of the picturesque Somerleyton Hall.

While the heat was a factor, Nicholson felt better prepared than she had in 2024.

“I don’t think it was as hot as last year but I knew what to expect,” she said. “The sponges were really helpful! Water stations were at every two miles pretty much so they came at the right time.”

Looking ahead, the Waveney Valley runner is already thinking about a potential hat-trick in 2026 – though she’s realistic about the challenge.

“I’ll try next year but age is not on my side! I’ll give it a go,” she added with a smile.

The event was expertly hosted by Great Yarmouth Road Runners, who ensured plenty of water and support for the 356 finishers on a testing summer’s day.

The 2025 Sportlink Grand Prix Series finale takes place at the Bure Valley 10 next month. Sign up for your place here.
