Norwich Road Runners’ Martyn Bath powered to victory at Coltishall Jaguars’ Flying 5K on Sunday – race 7 in the Sportlink Grand Prix Series – describing it as a “hard solo effort” in tough conditions.
He said: “It was tough conditions today and I was on my own from about a mile out. Today was a hard stimulus ready for Worstead next week – it was never going to be the same as Wroxham.”
Despite running alone in the second half, Bath crossed the line in 15:48, securing a comfortable win and using the race as a solid effort ahead of upcoming challenges.
“I wanted to get myself out there, push on and see how it went – quite happy.”

Bath’s performance followed a superb run at Wroxham 5K, where he clocked 15:14 – a personal best and a new Norwich Road Runners club record.
“It was really good – it went better than expected. I thought I was in a bit slower shape than that, but in that sort of race you can just hang on to people and try to keep catching them up. That last 400m is so quick as well, downhill – you can empty the tank. I was really happy with that.”
He added:
“Yeah – I managed to get a club record which had stood since 1998, so I’m happy with that one. It’s the only one I’ll get! But it’s good to have one at least.”
With momentum on his side, Bath now looks ahead to Worstead 5, Race 8 in the Sportlink Grand Prix Series, as he continues his impressive summer campaign.
