Every race has a story.
Some are about fast courses or famous winners.
The Mike Groves 10K is about something deeper – family, community and a legacy that continues to shape Norfolk running more than 25 years on.
In 1998, Michael Groves – a popular and talented runner and cyclist – was tragically killed in a traffic collision.
The following year, Michael’s father, Alan Groves, organised a memorial charity race in his son’s honour.
Named The Mike Groves Run, the event raised money for Quidenham Children’s Hospice and brought together runners from across the region to remember Michael while celebrating the sport he loved.
What began as a single memorial event soon became an annual fixture on the local calendar.
That race would also become the inspiration behind something even bigger.
In 2004, Alan Groves and his youngest son Paul went on to launch Coltishall Jaguars Running Club – a club built on inclusivity, community spirit and a shared love of running.

Alan remained Club President for 20 years, guiding the Jaguars through their formative years while ensuring the Mike Groves race continued annually.
Over that time, the event has raised more than £5,000 for local charities, quietly making a difference far beyond the finish line.
Today, the Mike Groves 10K sits at the heart of the Jaguars’ race programme and this year is the second race in the Sportlink Grand Prix Series.
It welcomes everyone from first-time 10K runners to experienced club athletes chasing personal bests.
Alan Groves passed away in August 2024, but his legacy lives on through the club he helped create and the race that continues to carry his son’s name.
Each year, when runners line up for the Mike Groves 10K, they’re taking part in more than just another race.
They’re stepping into a story that began with loss, grew through determination and now stands as an example of how running can bring people together – honouring the past while building something positive for the future.
The Mike Groves 10K remains a tribute to Michael, a celebration of Alan’s vision, and a reminder of what community sport can achieve.
