Wymondham AC member and someone who ran in the first ever parkrun at Bushy park in 2004, Andrew Lane, is the latest subject in our ’10 questions with…’ feature…
When did you start running?
1995, with the Thames Towpath 10 mile in West London
What’s your favourite event and why?
Marathons in general and London specifically. It’s really well organised with wonderful support all the way round. My PB course too.
What was your proudest run?
The Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa, in 2004. It’s over 90K and mountainous. I ran it in 8 hours, 12 minutes. It was very hard, but exhilarating as well, and emotional at the finish.
You’ve got a 10K training run to fit in, in Norfolk, where are you heading?
On my favourite local Wymondham routes, including our 10K course.

Who is your biggest running inspiration?
Paula Ratcliffe. She was setting her marathon records when I was getting into marathon running. I tried to copy her pacing strategy, running an even pace throughout.
What are your favourite running trainers?
Nike Pegasus
What’s your favourite piece of running kit (not including your trainers)?
Garmin watch
You’re running a marathon next week… you can choose one person to run it with you… who are you choosing and why?
Graham Walsh from Wymondham. We ran a lot of long runs together last year and are compatible temperamentally and politically!
Tell us something we didn’t know about you as a runner…
I hated running as a boy and didn’t start till I was 38.
What excites you the most about the 2025 Sportlink Grand Prix and 10K Series?
The opportunity to choose which series to focus on, and to compete in some new events.
