As runners, we spend weeks fine-tuning our training, poring over race routes, and chasing down personal bests.
But none of it would be possible — not one mile, not one medal — without the tireless efforts of the volunteers who make race day happen.
At every Sportlink Grand Prix Series event, an incredible team of marshals, organisers, and helpers work behind the scenes and out on the course to keep us safe, supported, and smiling (even when our legs are screaming).
The first three races of the 2025 Series have already shown just how much goes into making a brilliant race experience possible:
- Reedham Ten – Hosted by Great Yarmouth & District AC, who got the season underway with an early-year classic on the country lanes
- Valentine’s 10K – Norfolk Gazelles turned up the love (and organisation) with a fast, friendly event that’s become a February favourite
- Wymondham 20 – Wymondham AC delivered a slickly run, marathon-season must-do with brilliant on-course support and a great atmosphere
So here’s to the high-vis heroes — the ones who:
- Point us in the right direction when our race brain forgets where to go
- Staff the water stations with military precision, handing out bottles and encouragement in equal measure
- Manage registration desks in the early morning chill, ensuring bibs and smiles are all ready on time
- Lead the way from the front — whether driving the lead car or guiding the field by bike
- Bake cakes, pour tea, and clean up long after the last runner has crossed the finish line
And of course, a huge thanks to the race directors and club teams who plan every detail for months beforehand — often fitting it all around jobs, family life, and their own running.

Every cheer, every clapped hand, every “You’ve got this!” makes a difference.
So next time you’re racing, give a wave. Shout a thank you. Smile at the marshal (if you’ve got the energy). Because without volunteers, there would be no races.
From all of us at the Sportlink Grand Prix — thank you.
